Kano Evacuates Building Materials From Roads

The Kano state government has decried the indiscriminate dumping of building materials on the recently constructed roads in the metropolis .

The state Commissioner of Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Alhaji Ibrahim Garba, made this known while supervising the evacuation of the materials on the Yamadawa-Gwarzo road network.

Garba lamented that despite the millions of naira spent in the provision of roads with a view to opening up the state capital, some unscrupulous elements were hell bent on scuttling the efforts.

According to a statement signed by Yahaya Umar, public relations officer in the directorate, the commissioner warned that the government would not fold its arms and allow the perpetrators of these nefarious acts go unpunished.

He directed all those who deposited sand, cement blocks, stone aggregates and other building materials on roads to desist from doing so in their own interest or face the wrath of the government.

Alhaji Garba pointed out that apart from blocking the roads and hindering the free flow of traffic, dumping of the materials also cause accidents, adding that from now on the evacuation of the materials and possible prosecution of the owners would continue.

He then called on owners of tippers to stop dumping building materials on the roads as they are also liable to prosecution. He warned property owners on Yamadawa-Gwarzo Road to guard against re-developing their structures after receiving full compensation for them.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB), Engr. Hussam Musa Kerry, has stated that owners of materials deposited on public roads are legally bound to evacuate them within 24 hours.
